Meeting Terracotta Warriors

have heard about many fantastic stories about China’s first Emperor, Qin Shihuangdi. Those
stories are about the great construction of Terra-cotta Soldiers and the tomb which was filled
with great jewels. That is why I am also interested in finding out more about the famous
Terra-cotta Warriors.
I started reading books about Terra-cotta Army. Over the past decades, archedogists have dug up
and pieced together the soldiers in the tomb. Apart from the soldiers, they have also found thousands of
weapons and hundreds of Terra-cotta Horses. The soldiers were about six feet tall. I wonder if they
would have been great basket ball players as they were so tall and strong.
It was found that each of the soldiers had their own facial expression and it seems that they all had
different personalities. All these make Terra-cotta army more attractive.
I tried to find out more about the myth of Terra-cotta Army. I am so lucky that my parents know
someone who is very familiar with the history and facts about Terra-cotta Warriors. So, I talked to
Uncle Timothy one night. ‘The crafsmen modelled Terra-cotta Army after the real soldiers of Emperor
Qin’s army,’ said Uncle Timothy. ‘This explains why each of them had different facial expression. Apart
from this, the weapons dug out from the tomb were all real weapons! The arrows and swords were made
of a unique kind of metals. That’s why those weapons are as sharp as they were thousands years ago. Can
you believe it?’ continued Uncle Timothy. I was really amazed about the wonder of Terra-cotta Army!
Terra-Cotta Army is known as “the Eighth Wonder of the world”. ‘Mum, can we visit
Terra-cotta Army?’ I asked. ‘Perhaps you can go there later when you grow older,’ Mum patted my
shoulder gently.
Obviously, it was not the answer I expected. Yet, I can do nothing about it. What I can do is to
read my favourite book, “Terra-Cotta Warriors”.
‘Run! Run! What are you doing here, Ernest?’ someone yelled at me. I just can’t believe what is
happening! I am in a football field. I book around and I am playing football with… with Terra-cotta
Soldiers! ‘What are you waiting for? Shoot!’ I didn’t have time to think. So I shot the ball. ‘Hurray! It’s a
nice shot!’ the soldiers were so excited that they hugged me tightly. I had no idea why I was in a football
match with Terra-cotta Soldiers. It is so cool!
‘Ernest! Ernest!’ I heard Mum’s voice. Oh! I fell asleep when I was reading. It was really a nice
encounter with Terra-cotta Army! I hope I will “meet” them again one day.
